Free ride EDSA Carousel bus continuous; but only students are free on trains

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. continued. the free ride on the EDSA Bus Carousel. In Metro Manila, only students have free rides on trains such as Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3).

According to the Department of Transportation on Friday, the free ride on the EDSA Carousel bus will continue until December 2022.

Meanwhile, students are free to ride the trains of the Philippine National Railways, Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3), and Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT2) from August 22 to November 4, 2022.

According to the DOTr, such a decision considered the availability of funding for Service Contracting under the 2022 General Appropriations Act for the extension of free bus rides.

It is hoped that such a measure will help reduce the burden of Filipinos on the rising cost of goods, "and help them save money, especially with the return of face-to-face classes after more than two years."

The DOTr explained that students on MRT3, LRT2, and PNR were allowed to be exempted from fares, "in consideration of the students" welfare, whose learning outcomes have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic. "

The DOTr also added that the fare on the EDSA railway line is "heavily subsidized" so it will no longer be made free for everyone.
